Ghostly x Warby Parker for Black Friday

This summer I finally go around to getting some much needed new glasses from the super lovely french brand Jimmy Fairly. Up until this point I had been reasonably content with my £10 frames that were too big, seeing as I didn't really wear them all that often. After getting my new specs I've had a bit of a different mind-set and now love looking a pretty frames and good quality eyewear. One of the brands I've been keeping an eye on is Warby Parker who do some beautiful optical glasses as well as sunglasses. The other day I was surprisingly contacted by Warby Parker  about a new launch they're doing for Black Friday.

Their new collection is a collaboration with the record company Ghostly who have done these collaborations before, where they're bringing back their sleek Curtis sunglasses in 3 new colours .The new colours are Moss, Aubergine Fade and Burbon Tortoise as well as the classic Revolver Black. The sunglasses have a quite 'square' shape but I quite like that in eyewear. Personally I perfer the Burbon Tortoise as I've always been a fan of tortoise patterned frames. The colection is out tomorrow, November 28th and pricing starts at $95, not the cheapest of sunnies but you get what you pay for and these will definitely last you longer than a £2 pair from Primark.  Check the collection out below and find them plus all the other gorgeous frames they do at www.warbyparker.com!

Apart from that I just wanted to drop in and share a brilliant Black Friday offer! Sigma  Beauty is doing free worldwide shipping again this year! Available with the discount code BF2014 from www.sigma.com and it is live now, so head over whilst the offer is on if you need some good quality makeup brushes.

To those of you who are planning to do a bit of crazy shopping over the next 24 hours - enjoy! Meanwhile I'm going to continue working my way through end of term projects, whoop whoop.

The King of Coats

ZARA, coat (old, similar HERE) // PUBLIC DESIRE, boots // MONKI, jeans & hat // BIKBOK, blazer // HM, scarf & belt (and top - old) // DKNY, watch (sold out, similar HERE)

Everyone need that one perfect staple coat for the colder A/W months, and I sure found mine last year for only £30 in Zara. This grey bad boy is in my opinion the perfect coat to make any oufit look tailored and put toghether, yet casual and effortless. Paired with my new Public Desire boots, black jeans, a big scarf and my favourite hat I was feeling oh so cool. Haha, not reallly, but how can pointed boots and a hat not make you feel good?

I was going for a meal with my aunt and uncle this day so because I was wearing just a cami, and don't always love bearing my bare arms and shoulders when I'm in a restaurant, I decided to chuck this white blazer on under my coat for that extra layer. In the end I'm not sure if I liked it, especially when the white peeked out from under the coat but I went for it anyway.

I hope you're all liking these new posts, I promise it won't just be outfits from now but I've got absolute mountains of uni work to get through before christmas so I'm trying to put together what I can in the time I've got. Speaking of work, I've got to get back to marketing plans and trend translations, woohoo.

Green & Grey

HM, grey knit // MONKI , jeans // WEEKDAY, coat // HM, boots & scarf (old) // DKNY, watch (sold out) similar HERE // JIMMY FAIRLY, bag

Won't you look at that, I've finally crawled out of my No Blogging hole. Took me long enough, and I have to admit I almost forgot I had a blog for a second but then I remembered and realised I really wanted to get back into the swing of things, so here I am. Fingers crossed I won't dissapear again.

I've just got my hands on two of the things I was lusting after in the hm x alexander wang collection (will be sharing once it's on my door, don't worry), plus had a super yummy breakfast so I figured I'd keep the good morning going by doing a blogpost on yesterdays outfit.

This grey knit is my baby, I practically live in it on cold mornings when leaving my bed is extra painful. I was looking everywhere for a boyfriend style blazer coat this summer and found this gem reduced 70%  when visiting family up north, been a staple ever since the weather got colder as it is perfect for layering. Whenever I go oversized on the top half I tend to go for skinny jeans to balance it all out, these Monki ones are super skinny but so so comfy, and they dont go baggy after a long day - win.

I am not big on bags but I love these type of fabric shopping bags. I got this one when I bought my glasses from Jimmy Fairly but they are sold everywhere with lots of different prints. Perfect for uni or if you want to be more eco friendly when shopping and not use plastic bags :) Last but not least I had to get a close up of my new watch. My old one broke so I was over excited when I managed to get my hands on this in the DKNY sale for only £50.

I'm glad to be back on here again and I hope you lovely lot who keep clicking by will keep doing so now that I'll be putting some more content up!

Confession Time

For the past six months I have had a bit of a struggle with blogging. 3 years ago I started a blog, it wasn't my first one but my previous ones were deleted and I wanted to make a new one. My main reason was to blog about my time and experiences living in Colombia with my parents as an expat family. For a while that was all it was, but halfway through our stay I decided I wanted to blog about something other that what I was doing and so I slowly turned what was then called Me In Colombia into Someone In The Corner. A beauty and fashion blog. I say fashion but do I mean it? Not really. The thing is I always wanted to make SITC a fashion and personal style blog, but due to many different reasons never did and just stuck to the beauty. For the past year/six months I have grown more and more interested in clothes, style and fashion, and beauty and makeup has become more of a routine rather than something I love exploring. Don't get me wrong I still enjoy doing my makeup and still care about treating my skin well, but I used to love spending ages in the cosmetics section of department shops, just trying and discovering products whilst now I go in, get what I need and leave. Now it is clothes I spend hours on.

What I am trying to say is that the reason to why my blog has lacked love recently is because I have been struggling to find a way to go from beauty to fashion, yet I haven't been able to keep writing exciting posts about beauty. Hence I have been stuck in a bit of a rut. In other words, I am trying to find my own way of doing 'fashion blogging'. It's currently all just being planned in my head and in numerous different notebooks, but it is happening.

I have made a deal with myself that when I go back to manchester in September my blog will no longer be a beauty blog, but a fashion blog with a splash of beauty. I am excited to finally get this all sorted and stop the halfheartedly written blog posts.

Alright! I didn't mean for that to be oh so serious but what can you do? I don't think you will be hearing from me until I am back in Manc, but in the mean time may I suggest you all go and grab the Marie Claire Runway magazine - it is bloody brilliant and will prep you for AW14 trends like no other mag. I for one devoured mine on the flight back from a week in sunny south of France yesterday.

Ciao Bellas!

Product Picks For A Summer Face

When it comes to face makeup I can't get enough. I love trying new primers, bases, bronzers and highlighters. The whole shabang. As it's been absolutely gorgeous weather over here this summer (past few weeks have been sunfilled and hot hot hot - talking 30 degrees) I haven't been wearing much on my face most days, but on makup days the following has been my go-to mix for the face:

To prep and give my face a bit of colour and glow I use Clarins Instant Smooth Self Tanning and my well loved Laura Mercier Radiance Foundation Primer. If I feel the need for foundation I will go for Chanel Vitalumière Aqua and then go over the under eye area and any spots with my MAC Studio Finish Concealer, some days though I skip the foundation and just go over with some studio finish.

To shape things up I reach for Too Faced Chocolate Soleil for some bronzing and contouring as I find that this product has the perfect colour tone for me for the summertime. For blush I tend to go with MAC Extra Dimension Blush in Seduced at Sea unfortunately this is limited edition from the Alluring Aquatics Collection but I do believe you can still get it online. If not Benefit Rockateur is a good dupe. To finish it all off I use the highlighter in the Urban Decay Naked Flushed palette and I have to say - this is probably my favourite highlighter of all time.

So that's it, my go-to summer face makeup for the days I feel like putting on a little something something. I'd love to know if you have a few products you reach for more during the warmer months! Let me know in the comments!

Top 3 Summer Lipsticks

MAC Show Orchid / MAC Lady Danger / Chanel
I have been a 'beauty gal' for quite a few years now but its only this past year or so that I've found a love for lipsticks. I am still not a fan of the lipgloss and don't really see that changing any time soon but lipsticks, oh yes.

The only thing with me is I don't go for the typical nudes and pinks. If I wear lipstick it is more often than not a bright or bold one, and if I do go for a nude it is one out of the only two I own. A post all about my two nudes is coming right around the corner so stay tuned if you're a nude lips kind of girl.

Anyway, back to my point. Bold and bright lips. I love my MAC Rebel but sometimes I feel like something 'happier' as Rebel is sometimes a bit dark especially for summer and it is then that I reach for the three above.

Show Orchid has been on my wishlist since I read about it on Becky's blog(One you definitely need to check out if you haven't already. She's a top girl that one) and I finally got my hands on it at the pro store in London. It's a MAC amplified so it is super opaque and has a bloody brilliant staying power. All 8 hours of my shift with only one teeny touch up to be precise.

Lady Danger was all Molly's fault (another top girl right there), although I do thank her for making me buy it as it is the most perfect matte, orange toned red I have come across.

As for the Chanel MĂ©lodieuse - Who can say anythng bad about chanel?  This bad boy has got the mix of peach and pink just right so that I don't feel like a barbie doll nor a wannabe fruit. It has a very moisturising consistency and bit of a stain-like finish which I think is perfect for the summer months. I got mine in my Marie Claire beauty bag and it has been living in my bag ever since.

What are your go-to summer lipsticks?

My Internship at Marie Claire

It's been 2 months since my internship at Marie Claire finished and I'm only just now getting round to writing about my whole experience there. Shame on me. Anyway, better late than never right? As summer's here I reckon there are a few of you out there with an internship or some work experience lined up for the summer and I thought I'd give you a few tips and tell you a bit about how I found my time as a beauty intern at Marie Claire.

Being an intern doesn't necessarily mean you go on coffee runs and do your boss' errands all day long. In fact I was only asked to run out a couple of times during the 3 weeks I was there. In all fairness I came to Marie Claire just as they were starting to plan a major beauty shoot in the Maldives where they were going to shoot 7 stories. That meant me and Caitlin (the other beauty intern) had more than enough clothes, shoes, makeup and accessories to call in from all sorts of brands. I don't know how much we ended up getting in the end but it must have been several thousand items. We were literally drowning in designer clothes and shoes.  Sounds like any girls dream but it gets a bit exhausting remembering who everything is by and where we borrowed it from.  One tip I can give if you're asked to call in large amounts of clothes etc. - keep a detailed list of everything you've got and keep collections/designers together for a better overview.

Although we were both beauty interns; due to this big shoot we ended up working more with clothes than beauty products. The first 2 weeks went to lots of emailing, calling and hanging up clothes on rails. There was also a ridiculously stressful day of packing everything the stylist wanted for the shoot into 7 suitcases. It was absolute madness but despite feeling deat at the end of the day it was probably one of the most fun days just because you really get a feeling of how hectic it can be.

Now I got to do more than just the above, some of it was making moodboards for the fashion features editor, help select beauty products to be featured in the magazine, deliver and collect products that were going to be shot/had been shot for the magazine down at a nearby photo studio, and that sort of thing. The most exciting and the biggest thing I got to do was to write a piece for the Marie Claire website. A very exciting task for me - being a blogger and all, but I have to admit it is very different and challenging to write when it's not in 'your own voice'. You can click here if you want to read it.

Being an intern at a magazine such as Marie Claire, in a city like London is not just exciting, it is extremely challenging and a lot of hard work and patience. You have to expect a lot of the work you do to be quite repetitive, but if you show that you are reliable and effective you'll see that soon enough you might get bigger responsibilities. I got my internship partly through contacts and partly through my blog. The beauty features editor wanted me to do more writing and beauty related things but unfortunately there wasn't enough time due to the big shoot trip we were working on. I am so happy I got to do a little bit of it though as it is invaluable experience that you can only really get from an internship like this. And let's not forget about the amazing goodie bag I got to make myself before I left. Just like a kind in a candy shop - with money to spend. Check out some of my treats below.

I know this was a lengthy post but it is hard to put 3 intense weeks into few words. I do hope you liked it and that it was interestin or helpful to any of you who are considering doing an internship yourselves! I could not recommend doing it enough - it is just such an incredible opportunity. A second part to this post featuring my top tips will be up in a week or so, so keep an eye out for that.

Thank you so much to those of you who keep stopping by my blog even though I have been very bad on the update front the past months, I really do appreciate it! An outfit post is on its way and should be up within the next few days.

Em

At-Home Eyebrow Dye

If there is one thing I rely on doing on a regular basis beauty wise it's dying my eyebrows. I've got pretty light brows so to make filling them in a lot quicker and easier I turn to at-home dyes. Use whichever brand you can find in your local pharmacy/drugstore/beauty shop - they all work in more or less the same way. I usually go for Depend's little dye kit for brows and lashes in the colour brown. I used to use the black-brown colour and loved it as it stays nice and dar for longer than the brown but it is a bit too dark for me during the first days after dying so I've decided to try the brown now.

It is very straight forward once you just read the instructions but I'll go throught it Ă¼ber quickly here anyway. Mix around 2 cm of the cream with 10 drops of the liquid until it's a reasonably smooth 'paste'. Use the spoolie to brush your brows into shape and then use it to apply the dye to your brows. Try and maintain the shap you usually keep your brows in as this will make it neater and easier to fill in later on. Also make sure to clean up any dye you may have applied outside your brows - it does dye skin temporarily  so be careful so you don't get brown patches all over. Then just leave it on for 5-15 mins depending on  how dark you want it (I keep it on for 15) and then wash it off thouroughly.

Not the best after picture here but hey, it does the job.

And that is how I make everything eyebrow related a little bit easier and quicker, around about every 3-4 weeks. Do you dye your brows or have you considered it? If so let me know if this was of any help!

I'm not going to do the whole 'sorry I've been gone' speech simply because I'm not sorry. I needed a bit of a break and now we'll see if it did any good and if maybe  I'll manage to actually post regularly again. In the meantime you can head over to Bloglovin and follow me to be notified when I do post next.

Em

Current Skincare Routine

We all know that it's important to take care of our skin, but sometimes - actually most of the time, heading to the bathroom to have water going everywhere and sticky moisturiser get all over your hands is not very tempting. That's why I've now made my skincare routine as short, sweet and simple as possible, yet make sure it has everything my skin needs.

First thing I do is remove my make up if I've got any on. I do that with my much loved MAC Cleanse Off Oil - the best make up remover I have found so far for easily removing my waterproof mascara. After doing that ans rinsing it off with water I start massaging my Pai Camellia and Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser all over my face, then gently remove it with a warm, damp cloth. I always splash some cold water in my face afterwards to close open pores and to give a little boost.

On to moisturiser. It's been mentioned on here before and for good reason; Soap & Glory Puffy Eye Attack is my one true love when it comes to eye creams. Its cooling, light, hydrating and depuffs my often puffy eyes (lovely.). In the mornings I tend to just follow up with my Embryolisse Lait-Cremè ConcentrĂ© which is the perfect moisturiser for anyone who needs a bit of extra hydration but want to avoid the oily, sticky ones for the daytime. At night though I have fallen head over heels for the Egyptian Magic. Best way to describe it is as a sort of hard oil - when you rub it between your fingers it melts into an oil like consistency that applies very easily to the face but takes a little while to absorb (hence why I use it at night).

Apart from the eye cream all these products are ones I only started using about a month back and I don't know which one it is (or if it is the combination of all three) but I have never had clearer, brighter or softer skin. I don't bother wearing much make up on a daily basis anymore simply because its not really needed, but when I do it applies like a dream. I want to say that the Egyptian Magic has most of the blame but I am not entirely sure. All I know is that if you do come across it and have slightly dull or dry skin - give it a try.

Hope youe enjoyed this post and that it might have given you some tips for what to look into getting next time you're on a skincare product hunt!

Em

'Back to Bases'

Yes, I changed the look of my blog again. Only slightly though, but I have to admit the whole blog design thing is something Ifind hard to get right. It is like I'm never fully satisfied with what it looks like. But enough about that.

As I've already covered my favourite primers I thought I'd move on to what usually comes next; favourite bases. I'm a massive fan of finding nice bases, especially natural looking ones that will still even out my skin and cover what needs to be covered. The following ones range from light to full coverage but if applied right will all look very skin-like, flawless and natural.

Lightest first, the Diorskin Nude BB Cream has been mentioned on here more than a few times so I won't go on too much about it, but for a light, everyday base that evens out the skin and gives it a light glow - this is your best friend. Read a full review here. Available for £30 at Feelunique.

Chanel Vitalumière Aqua is a much loved foundation in the beauty blogging world. A light to medium coverage that stays in place, looks like skin and creates a flawless, glowing complexion. Very light feeling and hydrating but not at all oily. For best result I like to use my fingers to apply it. Available for £33 at Boots.

One I'd never heard of until I had a browse on cultbeauty quite a while ago is Alison Raffaele Reality Base Foundation which has the most appropriate name ever. It looks like skin, feels like skin (actually the product feels a bit like applying water to your face but once it's on it feels like skin), stays all day and  has a buildable medium to full coverage. Only downside is the slightly funny smell but that goes away once its set. The finish is very natural so not overly glow-y or matte but somewhere in between. Available for £35 at BeautyBay.

Last one is my newest addition and also the one I will probably use the least. Not because I don't like it because I really do (it wouldn't be in my 'favourite bases' post if I didn't), but because I just don't tend to go for full coverage products unless it is a special occasion or I'm going out - which is what I bought it for. Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation is another favourite in the world of beauty and it is not without reason. It gives flawless, longlasting, full coverage without looking cakey. I use it mixed with other, lighter foundations or with a damp beautyblender. Available for £34 at SpaceNK.

I know these are all high end products and I'm sorry I didn't include any high street ones, but when it comes to face products I do find that my skin prefers higher quality products. I'm not saying high street ones are bad, just that I haven't found a favourite there yet.

I would love to hear what your favourite face products are so let me know in the comments! Also love finding new blogs to read so pop your link in as well and I'l have a look. If you want to follow my blog you can do that here.

Modelling, Internship & Fever Time

Hello! It's been a while, and I'm sorry about that but I've been prettty caught up in coursework, nice weather, stepping into the world of modelling, preparing for and starting my internship with Marie Claire, at the same time as dealing with being more ill than I thought I was capable of. Over the past weeks I've been lucky enough to have a cold go from just a bit annoying to very bad to what I reckon was a bad case of the dreaded flu, fever and all. On top of that I also managed to get an eye infection and have just been feeling a bit drained, but I'm well on my way to recovery now (I hope...touch wood)! Apart from being ill I have to say life has been pretty good lately and now I shall return to my blog with lots of inspiration.

As I mentioned above I have very recently started modelling for the Manchester based agency J'adore Models  and although I've only done a couple shoots so far I've enjoyed it a lot. They scouted me last autumn at Vouge's Fashion Night Out but I kept putting off getting in touch with them up until now. You can see pictures from one of the shoots on their website jadoremodels.co.uk.

My Internship has, to be honest, been a bit 'so so' this far. I wasn't expecting much but as a beauty intern I was expecting to at least work with beauty related tasks but up until today all I got to do was e-mail fashion brands for 8 hours a day, asking if they have any clothes we can borrow for a big upcoming shoot. Yesterday I got to help cut out images for trendboards and today was actually the most interesting day so far as I got to call out to make-up brands to have them send up products. I can't complain - it is a very good opportunity to get experience and contacts and will look great on my CV, but I think everyone can relate to having a bad start somewhere new. It looks like I will have some more variety in what I get to do from now on though so that's  great.

So yeah, I am currently in London trying to do my best at Marie Claire whilst revising for exams and doing coursework - and getting very addicted to Game of Thrones... bad combo, but such a good show I can't stop now that I've started.

A little collage from some of the things I've done the past month.

I just wanted to update those of you who may want to know what's up, but from now on my posts will go back to their normal beauty/fashion content. If you want to keep up with what I do at MC head over to my Instagram and Twitter where I'll post a lot more about it.

A beauty post will be up this weekend so keep an eye out for that!

 Em

ADYN, MOM & MILEY

What's new? I've done some retail damage. Exactly - What's new?

Anyone who know me even just a little bit will know that I am a self confessed shopaholic. Therefore it  shouldn't come as a shock that I've got a few new things to show you. There are some more laying about but I thought I'd start with these. A bright blue ZARA T-shirt in the very popular baseball/sports style, the much talked about MOM Jeans from Top Shop, and *drumroll please* a long, black, neoprene T-shirt from ADYN that I am absolutely in love with. Finding that is all thanks to my good friend Ben who introduced me to ADYN in the first place and rocks the same T-shirt. As it is pretty massive on me (menswear) I've been wearing it as a dress which to be fair it could easily have been sold as because it works so well. I also revealed a bit of my love for Miley (not loving all her madness but I think she's pretty cool) and bought the newest issue of LOVE magazine where she's featured.

Hope you enjoyed this little mini haul post. Give me a shout if there's anything you'd like me to post about in the future and I'll make sure to get round to it. Also, feel free to leave your bloglink if you have a blog as  I am always on the lookout for new ones to read and follow.

Prime(r) Time

I have always seen primers as a bit unnecessary but over the past 6 months + I have discovered that when you use the right one it can do wonders. Therefore I wanted to share with you my top picks when it comes to that first layer of makeup. Keep in mind I tend to go for ones that give a dewy finish and adds glow to your face.

My latest addition but also clear favourite is the Laura Mercier Radiance Foundation Primer. This guy is the best of both worlds; adds the most gorgeous glow at the same time as it holds my foundation intact all day long, and you only need the smallest drop sized amount. Works wonderfully on its own with a tiny bit of concealer and powder or under BB cream or foundation. It was love at first try with this one. Available at Selfridges for £19. If you want a cheaper option then go for the L'OrĂ©al Lumi Magique Base which is very similar although has a pearl like finish rather than the more golden finish that the Laura Mercier one has. Still gorgeous though and it does do a good job at keeping your make-up in place. Available for £9.99 at Superdrug. The Dior Airflash CC Primer smooths and very subtly evens out your skin tone. It doesn't add any glow in particular but is very light and perfect to spray on under a BB cream for a good but not too heavy primer. Get it at Feelunique for £30. Last, but not least is the most illuminating and glow-giving out of them all; MAC Strobe Cream. Not exactly a primer in my eyes as it doesn't do much for the longevity of my foundation but it is absolutely a great base for those days when you need to add some life back into your face. Looks good with just a bit of powder on top or under any base that you normally use. Get it here for £23.50.

Do you have any favourite primers or prep products for your base? Let me know in th comments and I might try it out! Also leave your bloglink if you have a bloglink as  I am always on the lookout for new ones to read and follow.

A YSL Virgin No More

Oh the joy of owning my very first stunning Yves Saint Laurent lipstick. This one is from the SS14 Limited Edition and is in the colour Rose Asarine. I have already been wearing it several times despite buying it less than a week ago. The packaging, the formula, the colour, the staying power, the finish - it is all perfect. I will give you one advice, next time you're near a YSL counter - have a swatch (and a buy) - I promise you will not regret it.

The LBD That Rocks

A few weeks back I went on a bit of a shopping + lunch day with my aunt and uncle and picked up quite a few bits from the remaining sale items. Amongst all my bargains was this little, black beauty of a dress which has quickly become one of my favourtie items in my wardrobe. It is from the French brand The Kooples,  which to be fair I hadn't heard much of before I entered the shop but am no absolutely in love with. The reasonably small sized shop in Manchester's finer shopping area had the loveliest staff, very good sale items and good music playing - which is all I need for the ultiate shopping experience :) I got this dress for £72.50 - reduced from £145. You can still get it online on sale hereNot the cheabest LBD but the quality is so nice, the fit is perfect and the design and pattern in the fabric is very unique amongst my dresses. It is one of those items you can dress up or down for any occasion which is a piece of clothing I reckon everyone should own at least one of.

Also I just want to say sorry for another round of lack of activity. Exams, refreshers and new modules have just taken up a bit more time than expected. If you'd like to be notified when I do post though you can follow me on Bloglovin' Here. Apart from that I will see you soon and I hope you're all doing well!
