Confession Time

For the past six months I have had a bit of a struggle with blogging. 3 years ago I started a blog, it wasn't my first one but my previous ones were deleted and I wanted to make a new one. My main reason was to blog about my time and experiences living in Colombia with my parents as an expat family. For a while that was all it was, but halfway through our stay I decided I wanted to blog about something other that what I was doing and so I slowly turned what was then called Me In Colombia into Someone In The Corner. A beauty and fashion blog. I say fashion but do I mean it? Not really. The thing is I always wanted to make SITC a fashion and personal style blog, but due to many different reasons never did and just stuck to the beauty. For the past year/six months I have grown more and more interested in clothes, style and fashion, and beauty and makeup has become more of a routine rather than something I love exploring. Don't get me wrong I still enjoy doing my makeup and still care about treating my skin well, but I used to love spending ages in the cosmetics section of department shops, just trying and discovering products whilst now I go in, get what I need and leave. Now it is clothes I spend hours on. 

What I am trying to say is that the reason to why my blog has lacked love recently is because I have been struggling to find a way to go from beauty to fashion, yet I haven't been able to keep writing exciting posts about beauty. Hence I have been stuck in a bit of a rut. In other words, I am trying to find my own way of doing 'fashion blogging'. It's currently all just being planned in my head and in numerous different notebooks, but it is happening.

I have made a deal with myself that when I go back to manchester in September my blog will no longer be a beauty blog, but a fashion blog with a splash of beauty. I am excited to finally get this all sorted and stop the halfheartedly written blog posts.  

Alright! I didn't mean for that to be oh so serious but what can you do? I don't think you will be hearing from me until I am back in Manc, but in the mean time may I suggest you all go and grab the Marie Claire Runway magazine - it is bloody brilliant and will prep you for AW14 trends like no other mag. I for one devoured mine on the flight back from a week in sunny south of France yesterday.

My Internship at Marie Claire

It's been 2 months since my internship at Marie Claire finished and I'm only just now getting round to writing about my whole experience there. Shame on me. Anyway, better late than never right? As summer's here I reckon there are a few of you out there with an internship or some work experience lined up for the summer and I thought I'd give you a few tips and tell you a bit about how I found my time as a beauty intern at Marie Claire.

Being an intern doesn't necessarily mean you go on coffee runs and do your boss' errands all day long. In fact I was only asked to run out a couple of times during the 3 weeks I was there. In all fairness I came to Marie Claire just as they were starting to plan a major beauty shoot in the Maldives where they were going to shoot 7 stories. That meant me and Caitlin (the other beauty intern) had more than enough clothes, shoes, makeup and accessories to call in from all sorts of brands. I don't know how much we ended up getting in the end but it must have been several thousand items. We were literally drowning in designer clothes and shoes.  Sounds like any girls dream but it gets a bit exhausting remembering who everything is by and where we borrowed it from.  One tip I can give if you're asked to call in large amounts of clothes etc. - keep a detailed list of everything you've got and keep collections/designers together for a better overview.

Although we were both beauty interns; due to this big shoot we ended up working more with clothes than beauty products. The first 2 weeks went to lots of emailing, calling and hanging up clothes on rails. There was also a ridiculously stressful day of packing everything the stylist wanted for the shoot into 7 suitcases. It was absolute madness but despite feeling deat at the end of the day it was probably one of the most fun days just because you really get a feeling of how hectic it can be.

Now I got to do more than just the above, some of it was making moodboards for the fashion features editor, help select beauty products to be featured in the magazine, deliver and collect products that were going to be shot/had been shot for the magazine down at a nearby photo studio, and that sort of thing. The most exciting and the biggest thing I got to do was to write a piece for the Marie Claire website. A very exciting task for me - being a blogger and all, but I have to admit it is very different and challenging to write when it's not in 'your own voice'. You can click here if you want to read it.

Being an intern at a magazine such as Marie Claire, in a city like London is not just exciting, it is extremely challenging and a lot of hard work and patience. You have to expect a lot of the work you do to be quite repetitive, but if you show that you are reliable and effective you'll see that soon enough you might get bigger responsibilities. I got my internship partly through contacts and partly through my blog. The beauty features editor wanted me to do more writing and beauty related things but unfortunately there wasn't enough time due to the big shoot trip we were working on. I am so happy I got to do a little bit of it though as it is invaluable experience that you can only really get from an internship like this. And let's not forget about the amazing goodie bag I got to make myself before I left. Just like a kind in a candy shop - with money to spend. Check out some of my treats below.

I know this was a lengthy post but it is hard to put 3 intense weeks into few words. ADYN, MOM & MILEY

What's new? I've done some retail damage. Exactly - What's new? 

Blue Tee // ZARA , MOM Jeans // TopShop , Black Jersey // ADYN

Anyone who know me even just a little bit will know that I am a self confessed shopaholic. Therefore it  shouldn't come as a shock that I've got a few new things to show you. There are some more laying about but I thought I'd start with these. A bright blue ZARA T-shirt in the very popular baseball/sports style, the much talked about MOM Jeans from Top Shop, and *drumroll please* a long, black, neoprene T-shirt from ADYN that I am absolutely in love with. Finding that is all thanks to my good friend Ben who introduced me to ADYN in the first place and rocks the same T-shirt. As it is pretty massive on me (menswear) I've been wearing it as a dress which to be fair it could easily have been sold as because it works so well. I also revealed a bit of my love for Miley (not loving all her madness but I think she's pretty cool) and bought the newest issue of LOVE magazine where she's featured.

The LBD That Rocks

A few weeks back I went on a bit of a shopping + lunch day with my aunt and uncle and picked up quite a few bits from the remaining sale items. Amongst all my bargains was this little, black beauty of a dress which has quickly become one of my favourtie items in my wardrobe. It is from the French brand The Kooples,  which to be fair I hadn't heard much of before I entered the shop but am no absolutely in love with. The reasonably small sized shop in Manchester's finer shopping area had the loveliest staff, very good sale items and good music playing - which is all I need for the ultiate shopping experience :) I got this dress for £72.50 - reduced from £145. You can still get it online on sale here. Not the cheabest LBD but the quality is so nice, the fit is perfect and the design and pattern in the fabric is very unique amongst my dresses. It is one of those items you can dress up or down for any occasion which is a piece of clothing I reckon everyone should own at least one of. 

Also I just want to say sorry for another round of lack of activity. Exams, refreshers and new modules have just taken up a bit more time than expected. The Big Sale

Stella Shorts // 5 inch and up for Nelly

As you may or may not, this Friday (the17th) is my birthday, and for someone like me, with a bit of an inner shopaholic and their birthday oh so close to Christmas, this time of the year is normally a bit of a massive shopping spree. Combine all that with a growing love for fashion, some very good sales, and a lot of free time and you'll have the full picture that I like to call the past 3 weeks of my life. Basically I have been shopping a bit, and boy have I enjoyed it. I am not going to do a big haul post on it all but I do want to share a few bits with you in my next few posts, starting today with the shorts over all shorts in my opinion. A dark grey (see first two pictures) wool-like main part with a soft white layer under that has slits on the sides. It is the perfect pair for a laid-back spring/summer outfit. I got a few other things as well but these are definitely my favourites. The gorgeous and very stylish Finish blogger Sandra at 5 inch and up is behind the design and made a few more bits and pieces for a collection she did together with Nelly.com a little while back. Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen x BikBok Haul

Last Thursday the Scandinavian Clothing store BikBok launched the first part, out of three, of their Collection that they've made together with Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. As a huge fan of the twins and their eye for fashion and style, I was very excited to check the pieces out and hopefully pick some of them up. I didn't have time to head down to my local store until yesterday so I knew there was a chance that a lot of the collection would be sold out already, at least in my size. It turned out I was lucky as there were still quite a lot left and I got a hold of all the items I'd been wanting, apart form a blazer, and I thought I'd show you what I ended up with. I picked up two of the gorgeous shirts/blouses, one in a checkered burnt red and blue with a bow in the front and a black, high - neck, crochet patterned one. Both are in a lovely material and they have slightly 'fluffy' sleeves that come in quite fitted at the wrists - secured with nice little buttons. I also grabbed a mid-sized hand bacg in black and white with three compartments inside + a zipped pocket. it comes with a handle on top as well as a long black strap. Last but not least I decided on the black belt with gold studs and a big gold buckle - perfect with black jeans!

I absolutely love the outcome of this collaboration and can't wait for the next two parts! I'll try and do OOTD's with these items in the near future, but can't promise anything ;) And one more thing - If you haven't already I would love it if you'd follow me on Bloglovin' - that way you'll never miss a post.

Golden Zara Love

A few weeks ago I saw Kayleigh from Couture Girl post an Instagram photo of a pair of gorgeous Zara heels with the caption that she was selling them. As the shoe-holic and shopaholic I am, I went for it and bought them. A short week later and they were on my doorstep - literally. I was about to step on them as I walked out! Anyway, I love them so much that I figured it was only a matter of days before I had to share them with you guys, so here they are - my precious Zara heels in all their glory...on my feet. I hope none of you have a pet peeve about feet...nor a fetish. Both would make this a bit awkward. Now, enough of the ramble!

These heels are pretty much just your normal sandal heels in black suede, with a strap over the toes and one around the ankle, with a little gold buckle to hold it in place. The actual heel part of them is what's so gorgeous as it is covered in shiny gold! Ahhh, love. As for how comfortable they are - considering the heels are thin they are very comfortable. The perfect pair for any occasion whether it may be work, shopping, dinner, a party, a wedding - anything, anytime :)

I realised it's a bit odd to dedicate a whole post to one pair of shoes but oh well. The Event

I am finally starting to feel a bit better. Started taking antibiotics yesterday so I think they are starting to work already. Thank the lords. 

Anyways, on Thursday I struggled myself out of bed and went to my old school's graduation. I was supposed to graduate with them had it not been for the fact that well, I moved back to Norway and started a different school. Yesterday was prom but every inch of my body told me not to go so I figured I'd listen to it and stay in bed, which was a good decision I think. I just thought I would do a little post on my make-up + outfit for the night as it was a bit of an event.

I kept the eyes fairly simple and went for a grey/brown smokey eye based on the lovely shades in the Naked2 pallet by Urban Decay. I went for foxy all over the lids, taking it all the way up to the eyebrows with a large shader brush. Then, using a fluffy brush (something like MAC's 217 or Sigma's E25) I applied a mixture of suspect and verve on the outer 2/3's of the lid, leaving the inner corner free for some of the light and shimmery bootycall. Snakebite went in the outer corner as well as lightly through the crease taking it all the way in to the inner corner. To add a little bit of umhp to the look I took some of half baked and applied a teeny tiny bit of it to the centre of the eyelid. I traced snakebite along the lower lashline as well as lining my upper lashes with the pure black colour blackout. Last but not least, some mascara (Clinique High Impact Curling Mascara) and some false lashes. 

Then came the outfit. I opted for Black, White and Gold, with a Mint bag. The gold accessories were from BikBok and H&M, The mint bag also from H&M (and I am loving it), the dress from Silence + Noise via Urban Outfitters and the jacket from NafNaf. I ended up changing into my studded Zara leather jacket as I thought it made the outfit look more put - together, but other than that everything remained the same.

I think the idea is great and really appreciated the nomination! Loubna gave me a few questions to answer so I will go ahead and do that, and then I will announce the blogs I nominate at the end of the post along with the questions I have for them :)

What is your favorite color?

I think I would have to say blue! Although I love pretty much all colours.

Where is the most incredible place you have been to?

It is a tie between the Amazon Jungle and Zanzibar in Tanzania. Two very different places but oh so beautyful!

Do you have any pet?

No I don't but I have had hamsters and rabbits in the past and I would love  to get a dog! Haha :)

What made you choose blogging?

The opportunity to express myself and write about my passions without necessarily boring my friends to death, haha. Also the incredible community that blogging creates! The amazing people I have come to know are some that I would never have gotten to know without my blog. 

What is your favorite perfume?

There is no doubt on this one, Chanel Chance! I love the Eau de Toilett and Eau Tendre, but recently had a sniff at the Eau Fresh and fell head over heels for it... Just smell them, they are incredible!

Where do you like to see yourself in ten years?

I would like to see myself living in a big city, hopefully working within the promotion/communication part of the fashion industry, and as a freelance make-up artist. Maybe I will be writing this blog even then!  I beg that I will love what I do and that it challenges me, teaches me and inspires me. As for love and family and all that, I just hope I am happy with whomever surrounds me.

What is your favorite TV show ?

Oh..this is a toughie! I am a TV show junkie, I watch waaaay too many and get far to addicted. But I think that right now my favourite is Suits - I can't wait for season 3 to start in June! I might do a post on my top TV shows someday soon, just to share the love your know? 

What is your favorite Makeup brand?

I don't really have a favourite, I like so many, but from the high street I love Rimmel and Revlon a lot at the moment, and my MAC eyeshadows and lipsticks are almost always included in my make-up routines!

What is your morning skincare routine?

I use the foaming cleanser from a scandinavian brand called ACO Spotless, then I spray some of La Roche-Posay's Thermal Spring Water  all over my face and neck. For moisturiser I am currently using La Roche Posay's Effaclar Duo  and the ACO Spotless Oil Free Matifying Daily Moisturiser which are both brilliant for someone with an oily T-Zone prone to breakouts!

What is your favorite foundation ?

Right now it is Revlon Nearly Naked! 

What is your favorite song ?

Laura Palmer by Bastille! The music video is a bit odd, but the song is incredible!

Floral Bomber

To me spring means sun, flowers, green grass and birds singing from the trees, at least that is the cliche part of spring. However I find that fashion tends to incorporate many of those things into spring and summer trends. The SS trends are my favourites as I love wearing colours and I enjoy wearing less thick layers (although that can be fun too).  This year, I have decided to put some more effort into my everyday style, and I cannot wait for school to be over (I have my last exam in 15 days so I'm almost there!!) so that I can work on my blog, YT channel, and style 100%. Ahh, they joy of graduating, huh?

Anyways, one example of spring themes incorporated into trends is this amazing bomber jacket in floral print by H&M that I got the other day. I have seen tons of variations of these jackets all over the shops, both high street and high end. This jacket paired with a neon tank top from Zara and some Levi's shorts (from Urban Outfitters) and I was left with the ultimate, casual spring outfit. Of course I forgot to add accessories before I took the pictures, but with a greenbow on my head, some miscellaneous bracelets and a couple of stackable rings I was set to take the streets in some worn Converse sneakers and a pair of black Ray-Ban wayfarer's. Hipster? Nah, just me :)

Blue Crop

Now a days I long for summer and the end of exams more than words can express. I therefore end up spending too musch time on planning blogposts, taking OOTD pictures, hang out on Twitter, Instagram, various blogs and YouTube...not good. Exams start next thursday which means I need to focus on studying, but it is just do boring! I really sympathise with all of you who are also preparing for or are in the middle of exams!

Anyways, despite the temperature still being quite low-ish (10 degrees isn't really anything to brag about in the middle of April..) I have whacked out my cropped tops and short skirts! Obviously still wearing them tights but you know, it still counts! Right?

The other day I was sporting a fairly new, blue cropped top by New Look together with a black pencil skirt in cotton from Monki and some bangles from around the world - literally. The top has a gorgeous texture/print in the fabric that reminds me a little of aztec pattern but it just gives the top more dimension and a little somethin' somethin'. I really think New Look  does have a few gems in stock this year and they have stepped it up a notch with their collections which gives them a humongous thumbs up from me at least!

Summer Style: The Festival Re-run

As the sun has left my dear old city for a little while (she's been here for over 2 consistent months, so can't complain) and given us grey skies and rain, I found my self longing even more for the long, hot summer days, wearing light summer clothes. So since I am already stuck in bed with my annual cold I figured I might as well go ahead and share a few outfits I cannot wait to sport this summer!

Whilst my mind was wandering my immune system shut down - apparently I use my energy for daydreaming rather than keep myself healthy - and this has led to me getting sick once again, I. Hurray for that, eh?

Back to the topic of summer fashion. As you may know I am going to "T in the park" which is a music festival in the south of Scotland, due to this a lot of the summer outfits I put together in my head are festival apt. Still I want to share some with you, and so I have decided to make a little series out of this and share one outfit a a week more or less for the next few months! Sounds good? 

Today I decided to go for a very traditional festival look. Distressed denim shorts (Levi's), Cropped T-shirt with fringes (H&M), mismatch of jewellery and of course; round, brown sunglasses (Urban Outfitters). I love this kind of casual, laid-back style for any occasion when the weather allows it, not only at festivals.

Spring is back

I know I've been a horrible blogger the past few weeks, and to be honest I have no other excuse than that I have had no inspiration at all. However I am back with some loaded batteries - the spring sun is a charger for more than solar panels! Next week I am off to England (London, Manchester and Leeds) for a week to visit some universities, see my aunt, uncle and cousin(s) and of course - do some shopping! Spring is coming at full speed and I believe it is time to bring out those lovely florals and pretty colours. I don't know about you, but I cannot wait to finally slip on a pretty dress wthout worrying about wearing thick, itchy woolen tights that does not match. So, in the time of spring I made a little outfit on my ployvore account that I would love to wear once the temperature rises. Did someone say Alexander Wang?

I'm afraid not, but these gorgeous heels do come quite close in appearance(except from the holes), although price wise they are far, far, far cheaper. In fact I didn't pay more than £10 (100NOK) for them in the January sale at H&M! The quality may not be nearly as good as a pair of Wang's (not that I would know, but I assume so - my budget certainly does not stretch far enough for owning a pair of Alexander's designs, even though I wish it did). Anyway, these cheap-ass pretties are quite a decent dupe (I know they aren't identical at all, but the style is rather similar I think) for those of us who want to pretend that we do indeed own designer  shoes whilst we don't ...at all :) Ok, enough about that, you can judge as to how far they look alike yourself, but regardless of the resemblance I still think they're pretty gorgeous, and they are actually comfortable - that is if you are a little used to heels, if not then well, they aren't exactly as comfortable as flats..duh. Ok, I'll let you have a look and judge yourself:
