Top 3 Summer Lipsticks

MAC Show Orchid / MAC Lady Danger / Chanel
I have been a 'beauty gal' for quite a few years now but its only this past year or so that I've found a love for lipsticks. I am still not a fan of the lipgloss and don't really see that changing any time soon but lipsticks, oh yes.

The only thing with me is I don't go for the typical nudes and pinks. If I wear lipstick it is more often than not a bright or bold one, and if I do go for a nude it is one out of the only two I own. A post all about my two nudes is coming right around the corner so stay tuned if you're a nude lips kind of girl.

Anyway, back to my point. Bold and bright lips. I love my MAC Rebel but sometimes I feel like something 'happier' as Rebel is sometimes a bit dark especially for summer and it is then that I reach for the three above.

Show Orchid has been on my wishlist since I read about it on Becky's blog(One you definitely need to check out if you haven't already. She's a top girl that one) and I finally got my hands on it at the pro store in London. It's a MAC amplified so it is super opaque and has a bloody brilliant staying power. All 8 hours of my shift with only one teeny touch up to be precise.

Lady Danger was all Molly's fault (another top girl right there), although I do thank her for making me buy it as it is the most perfect matte, orange toned red I have come across.

As for the Chanel Mélodieuse - Who can say anythng bad about chanel?  This bad boy has got the mix of peach and pink just right so that I don't feel like a barbie doll nor a wannabe fruit. It has a very moisturising consistency and bit of a stain-like finish which I think is perfect for the summer months. I got mine in my Marie Claire beauty bag and it has been living in my bag ever since.

What are your go-to summer lipsticks?

My Internship at Marie Claire

It's been 2 months since my internship at Marie Claire finished and I'm only just now getting round to writing about my whole experience there. Shame on me. Anyway, better late than never right? As summer's here I reckon there are a few of you out there with an internship or some work experience lined up for the summer and I thought I'd give you a few tips and tell you a bit about how I found my time as a beauty intern at Marie Claire.

Being an intern doesn't necessarily mean you go on coffee runs and do your boss' errands all day long. In fact I was only asked to run out a couple of times during the 3 weeks I was there. In all fairness I came to Marie Claire just as they were starting to plan a major beauty shoot in the Maldives where they were going to shoot 7 stories. That meant me and Caitlin (the other beauty intern) had more than enough clothes, shoes, makeup and accessories to call in from all sorts of brands. I don't know how much we ended up getting in the end but it must have been several thousand items. We were literally drowning in designer clothes and shoes.  Sounds like any girls dream but it gets a bit exhausting remembering who everything is by and where we borrowed it from.  One tip I can give if you're asked to call in large amounts of clothes etc. - keep a detailed list of everything you've got and keep collections/designers together for a better overview.

Although we were both beauty interns; due to this big shoot we ended up working more with clothes than beauty products. The first 2 weeks went to lots of emailing, calling and hanging up clothes on rails. There was also a ridiculously stressful day of packing everything the stylist wanted for the shoot into 7 suitcases. It was absolute madness but despite feeling deat at the end of the day it was probably one of the most fun days just because you really get a feeling of how hectic it can be.

Now I got to do more than just the above, some of it was making moodboards for the fashion features editor, help select beauty products to be featured in the magazine, deliver and collect products that were going to be shot/had been shot for the magazine down at a nearby photo studio, and that sort of thing. The most exciting and the biggest thing I got to do was to write a piece for the Marie Claire website. A very exciting task for me - being a blogger and all, but I have to admit it is very different and challenging to write when it's not in 'your own voice'. You can click here if you want to read it.

Being an intern at a magazine such as Marie Claire, in a city like London is not just exciting, it is extremely challenging and a lot of hard work and patience. You have to expect a lot of the work you do to be quite repetitive, but if you show that you are reliable and effective you'll see that soon enough you might get bigger responsibilities. I got my internship partly through contacts and partly through my blog. The beauty features editor wanted me to do more writing and beauty related things but unfortunately there wasn't enough time due to the big shoot trip we were working on. I am so happy I got to do a little bit of it though as it is invaluable experience that you can only really get from an internship like this. And let's not forget about the amazing goodie bag I got to make myself before I left. Just like a kind in a candy shop - with money to spend. Check out some of my treats below.

I know this was a lengthy post but it is hard to put 3 intense weeks into few words. I do hope you liked it and that it was interestin or helpful to any of you who are considering doing an internship yourselves! I could not recommend doing it enough - it is just such an incredible opportunity. A second part to this post featuring my top tips will be up in a week or so, so keep an eye out for that.

Thank you so much to those of you who keep stopping by my blog even though I have been very bad on the update front the past months, I really do appreciate it! An outfit post is on its way and should be up within the next few days.

At-Home Eyebrow Dye

If there is one thing I rely on doing on a regular basis beauty wise it's dying my eyebrows. I've got pretty light brows so to make filling them in a lot quicker and easier I turn to at-home dyes. Use whichever brand you can find in your local pharmacy/drugstore/beauty shop - they all work in more or less the same way. I usually go for Depend's little dye kit for brows and lashes in the colour brown. I used to use the black-brown colour and loved it as it stays nice and dar for longer than the brown but it is a bit too dark for me during the first days after dying so I've decided to try the brown now.

It is very straight forward once you just read the instructions but I'll go throught it über quickly here anyway. Mix around 2 cm of the cream with 10 drops of the liquid until it's a reasonably smooth 'paste'. Use the spoolie to brush your brows into shape and then use it to apply the dye to your brows. Try and maintain the shap you usually keep your brows in as this will make it neater and easier to fill in later on. Also make sure to clean up any dye you may have applied outside your brows - it does dye skin temporarily  so be careful so you don't get brown patches all over. Then just leave it on for 5-15 mins depending on  how dark you want it (I keep it on for 15) and then wash it off thouroughly.

Not the best after picture here but hey, it does the job.

And that is how I make everything eyebrow related a little bit easier and quicker, around about every 3-4 weeks. Do you dye your brows or have you considered it? If so let me know if this was of any help!

I'm not going to do the whole 'sorry I've been gone' speech simply because I'm not sorry. I needed a bit of a break and now we'll see if it did any good and if maybe  I'll manage to actually post regularly again. In the meantime you can head over to Bloglovin and follow me to be notified when I do post next.

Current Skincare Routine

We all know that it's important to take care of our skin, but sometimes - actually most of the time, heading to the bathroom to have water going everywhere and sticky moisturiser get all over your hands is not very tempting. That's why I've now made my skincare routine as short, sweet and simple as possible, yet make sure it has everything my skin needs.

First thing I do is remove my make up if I've got any on. I do that with my much loved MAC Cleanse Off Oil - the best make up remover I have found so far for easily removing my waterproof mascara. After doing that ans rinsing it off with water I start massaging my Pai Camellia and Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser all over my face, then gently remove it with a warm, damp cloth. I always splash some cold water in my face afterwards to close open pores and to give a little boost.

On to moisturiser. It's been mentioned on here before and for good reason; Soap & Glory Puffy Eye Attack is my one true love when it comes to eye creams. Its cooling, light, hydrating and depuffs my often puffy eyes (lovely.). In the mornings I tend to just follow up with my Embryolisse Lait-Cremè Concentré which is the perfect moisturiser for anyone who needs a bit of extra hydration but want to avoid the oily, sticky ones for the daytime. At night though I have fallen head over heels for the Egyptian Magic. Best way to describe it is as a sort of hard oil - when you rub it between your fingers it melts into an oil like consistency that applies very easily to the face but takes a little while to absorb (hence why I use it at night).

Apart from the eye cream all these products are ones I only started using about a month back and I don't know which one it is (or if it is the combination of all three) but I have never had clearer, brighter or softer skin. I don't bother wearing much make up on a daily basis anymore simply because its not really needed, but when I do it applies like a dream. I want to say that the Egyptian Magic has most of the blame but I am not entirely sure. All I know is that if you do come across it and have slightly dull or dry skin - give it a try.

Hope youe enjoyed this post and that it might have given you some tips for what to look into getting next time you're on a skincare product hunt!
