The Girl Behind The Keyboard

Who am I to my readers? That was a question that popped into my head the other day, and I realized that you do not really know too much about me. Therefore I am making this post to share a little bit more of who I am... on an unserious level at least :)

1.) I love lemon, lime, oranges and any citrus-y foods, drinks or heh..beauty products. Although on the other hand I can't stand coriander, sour cream, balsamic/vinegar dressings and oils...

2.) I am planning to study Fashion Marketing/Promotion in the UK, as well as attending a make-up artist course so that I can one day work within the two industries that I love more than anything!

3.) I am obsessed with TV-shows...it really is a bad habit

4.) For years I have dreamt about attending New York or London Fashion Week, not as an audience but as someone who is part of what goes on backstage. It has now become my #1 dream to achieve.

5.) I love singing and dancing, especially when I vacuum and clean up around the house! However I wanted to pursue sining as a career when I was a little younger.

6.) I first got into makeup and beauty about 3 years ago when I came across a make-up tutorial by MakeupByTiffanyD on youtube!

7.) I have a silent desire to try modeling, but never had the guts to actually try it...Maybe that should be one of my to-do things!

8.) I speak three languages: Norwegian, English and Spanish, but I understand Danish and Sweedish as well although few people would count them considering I know Norwegian which is fairly similar.

9.) I am 1 year younger than the rest of my grade, as I kind of got to skip a year due to my 1 year in Colombia.

10.) I have 3 older sisters, whom I love very much! Now that I am older I feel like I have some very good friends in them which I am so grateful for :)

11.) I am a mahusive (a mixture of massive and huge) fan of Harry Potter. I know pretty much every line in the movies and the books are pretty much stamped onto my brain after I read them the 4th (..or was it 5th?) time! So yes, I love J.K.Rowling for creating such an incredible world, and I love Warner Bros. and Universal for opening their Harry Potter park and studio so that I, among all the other fans out there can feel like we are living in the magical world. See a post here from when I visited the WB studio tour, unfortunately I have lost the post from Universal, but both are incredible to visit for us HP geeks ;)

12.) I love roller coasters! Haha, quite random but I do :)

13.) I have a gap in my teeth that has always been there and always will be unless it decides to go away itself. Anyhow I do not intend to do anything in order to remove it. I like being a ginger with freckles and a gap between her teeth.

My second oldest sister and me in Universal :)

If you liked this post I might do more of the same type in the future however, I would love it if you would, for now, leave me a comment telling me a few facts about yourself, so that I can get to know you better too!

Lots of love, always

25'000

Wow I have reached over 25 000 page-views on this blog! I know for some that may be little, but for me, that is pretty cool! I have now blogged on this "platform" for 1 year and a few months and I am really enjoying it. Not very long ago I was asked to start collaborating with some fashion and beauty brands and although it is still only in the initial stages of the process I am so excited to get an opportunity like this. I started blogging simply because I wanted to keep family and friends updated on my life in Colombia, then I "expanded" into a fashion and beauty blog too and now that I am back in Norway, fashion and beauty is what "someoneinthecorner" is all about!

I truly enjoy blogging and lately there has been a lot more response to my posts which I find very exciting too! I can tell that I will keep this blog up and running for quite some time and I can't wait to see what it may bring. I hope you are all going to join me on this journey and hopefully the blogging community will give me the opportunity to create some nice friendships!

Thank you for staying with me so far, 25 000 is more than I expected to reach so now I am curious of how far this blog may take me and I hope you will keep reading and being incredible :)

Twelve Days of Christmas post coming up later, all about what to wear for the many holiday parties!

xx

Paris: Outfit

7 down and 5 to go of the 12 days of Christmas posts, which means that there will be one new post every day up until Monday, 24th of December!
I had an amazing time in Paris over the weekend, and I am working on making a little video of the things we did. As soon as that's done I will post it here, and hopefully that will be before 12 days of Christmas is over :) Anyway, while in Paris I finally found the winter coat I have been looking everywhere for, and what better way to show it to you than in some "taken in the hotel bathroom just before leaving" pictures? Oh well, I realize I should have made the effort to take some more decent pictures but these will do for now. You will no doubt see this coat again, very shortly, and in way better quality. That's a promise.

Apparently this is Dead Serious Stuff...

Coat // Zara
Top // Urban Outfitters
Skirt // H&M
Thights // H&M
Bag // BikBik

On My Lips: is MAC Cherry Lip pencil and Revlon LipButter in Apple Candy

Christmas Gift Guide for a Beauty Girl!

As a little beauty freak I know how much I appreciate some new bits and pieces in my collection of  gorgeousness, and it is even more enjoyable when they come wrapped in pretty paper, accompanied by a lovely card. So to help those of you who are trying to decide what to get that beauty obsessed girl; here are a few of my tips!

Number 1: Luxurious lipsticks
I would say that it is a safe pick to go with a lipstick or lipgloss from a brand that she may not have the budget to splurge on ever so often. CHANEL, Yves Saint Laurent, LancĂ´me and MAC to mention some, are great brands to look into for a special, luxury treat to someone. (Any product from a luxury, high-end brand such as these will most likely be a success. It doesn't have to be a lip product )

source: www.weheartit.com

Number 2: Mini - Makeup Goodie Bag
Not only lipsticks, but mascaras, foundations, blushes and eyeshadows are all worth considering for your beauty junkie. If you don't want to spend too much and would rather go for something less extravagant than the brands mentioned above, then take a whirl around your local drugstore/pharmacy (or anywhere where they stock brands such as Maybeline, L'oréal, MaxFactor, Sleek, Rimmel, Revlon) and pick up a few pieces that can come together as a nice gift.

My tip would be to go for something that suits the holiday, so maybe a red or berry/plum coloured lipstick/gloss, an eyeshadow quad with some sparkling golds and browns  and maybe an eyeliner or a warm blush. It doesn't have to come together as too much as long as you take advantage of affordable brands, and all the offers they have around this time of year. If you feel like going all out, they maybe buy a little makeup bag to store it all in?

Number 3: Nail Polishes
Around this time of the year all beauty companies come out with their holiday collections and well, they all include a lovely nail polish or two. It is the same with actual nail polish brands such as O.P.I and Essie. There are countless colours, sizes, sets and formulas to choose from, but as a christmas gift I think that the mini sets from O.P.I and Essie are absolutely brilliant! O.P.I released a mini set of their James Bond Skyfall collection which I think had some pretty gorgeous colours in it.  See a post featuring one of the colours here. And Essie's christmas collection is also pretty stunning, especially their glittery berry colour!

When it comes to nail polish it really is an almost fool-proof gift, just make sure you go for a brand with good reputation and that you choose colours that the girl you're buying for will like!

Essie's Christmas Collection (The glittery berry colour is all the way to the back)

source: www.weheartit.com

Number 4: Bath, Body and Hair Products
Whether it may be oils to put in the bath or oils to put on your body or soaps/shampoos/conditioners , nice looking and nice smelling body and hair products are always great gifts! I don't have a bathtub myself but if I did I know I would have loved to have some Aromatherapy Oils to soak in. Around Christmas there are also tons of offers on sets made up of a fragrances, bath/body products and nice treats that are perfect for pampering! www.feelunique.com has a brilliant selection, so you can have a look there :)

source: www.weheartit.com

Number 5: Fragrances / Perfumes
What girl doesn't love a nice perfume? What's so great about perfumes/fragrances is that you can get one from a very luxurious brand without robbing yourself completely. A CHANEL perfume for example is something that will still give that feeling of exclusivity and luxury but cost you way less than a CHANEL bag. And you can get perfumes/fragrances  from all sorts of brands in all sorts of sizes and scents and you don't have to ruin your budget for it :)

source: www.weheartit.com

Number 6: Beauty treatments

Now this is a gift that can be very cheap or very expensive, but it can also be very personal and something most girls (not only us beauty freaks) will love. I'm thinking about a beauty treatment of any sort; a massage, a facial, a manicure/pedicure, a day at a spa and so on...

I said it could be very affordable/very expensive because it all depends on how much money you have and how much you are willing to spend. You can easily make it incredibly personal and thoughtful by offering to give her a massage using a massage/body oil . A suggestion of how to present this is to make a nice card, where you write what you are willing to give (massage/manicure/anything you can come up with) and make maybe five small boxes that she has to cross out for every time she receives this treat (almost like a punch card). Put this card into a nice paper bag together with a nice massage oil/nail polish/some chocolate hearts (if you want to make it more romantic), or whatever suits the gift you're giving.

If you want to spend more money you can always book a day at a nice spa and give that in the same "presentation" as above, but personally I think the more affordable version is definitely the most personal and thoughtful gift.

Wow. If you have read this whole post then - Congratulations! And Thank You! I didn't intend for it to get so long, but when I get inspired, there is no way to slow me down or stop me... Anyway, I hope this was helpful to at least some of you who may (or may not) be struggling to find a gift for that one girl who just loves beauty or who simply doesn't know what to wish for.

If there are any other sorts of gift guides you would like me to do, then let me know and I will get on it, Christmas is getting close and finding those last minute gifts can be a nightmare, so if I can help anyone avoid the stress, I will be very glad :)

New post in two days - a fashion post this time!

Gingerbread Cookies

As a christmas tradition, my family always bake gingerbread cookies on the first Sunday in advent, and this year we did it once again (duh, it's called a tradition for a reason..). As I love gingerbread cookies for christmas I thought I would share the recipe we used, so that you can make them too, because they are honestly delicious! Keep in mind that the batter should be left in the fridge over night and that it makes for quite a lot of cookies so a fair few hours will be required, but I recommend gathering friends and family for a bake-day - It can be a lot of fun, especially afterwards if you decorate them :)

You will need:
2 eggs
2 1/2 dl of sugar
250 gr of dark syrup
125 gr of butter
1/2 tsp with pepper
1/2 tsp with ginger
1/2 tsp with cinnamon
1/2 tsp with cloves
1/2 tsp with harts horn/powder of ammonium bicarbonate
About 600 gr of flour

How to:
1. Whisk the eggs and sugar until it is fluffy (like eggnog).
2. Melt the syrup and the butter in a large sauce pan, then leave to cool.
3. Mix all the dry ingredients and add to the sauce pan with the butter and syrup.
Make sure to mix it all thoroughly.
4. Leave to cool in the fridge overnight.

After a night in the fridge...
5. From your batter, take appropriate sized pieces (they shouldn't be too big because that makes it harder to work with) and start rolling it flat on a floured surface with a rolling pin.
6. When you have the desired thickness of the batter you can find your "cookie cutters"/shapes and create all kinds of nice gingerbread men/women/animals/stars/hearts. (Remember that they get crispier the thinner they are)
7. Now, just put them on a baking tray covered with grease proof paper and in the oven at 200 °C for about 10 minutes. (Leave them for longer or shorter depending on how crispy and golden you want them, I prefer mine quite crispy and thin )

I hope you enjoyed this post, and that you'll try out the christmas cookies! If you do, let me know how they turned out :)

Talk to you in two days!

My Advent Calendar

This year I was pretty much set on not having an advent calendar, but then my  mom surprised me on 1st of December with a little beauty looking like this: (I guess it's not that small actually..)

That's right, she got me a beauty filled calendar, where I will have the joy of finding one little product sample everyday up until christmas! Quite brilliant as it may give me some tips for what to wish for (and for my birthday in January!)! So far I've gotten two perfume samples and one mini skincare product which I am excited to try.

I certainly love this calendar and every morning it is a teeny bit easier to wake up when I know I will find a new little treat in this beauty. Ahh, materialistic love...

If you have an advent calendar, let me know what you have in yours, whether it is chocolate, nail polish, skincare, miscellaneous mini gifts or whatever else! I would love to hear about it :)

How To: Gold Sparkly Eyes

Happy 1st of December! As promised I will be doing a "12 days of Christmas" blogathon (at least that's what I call it), and starting today there will be festive, christmas related posts every other day all the way up until Christmas. To kick start it all I created a step-by-step tutorial on how to do a perfect Christmas make-up look with a gold, sparkly eye and a red lip.

Let's Start !

(Optional) Step 1 : Apply a primer to make your shadows stay more opaque for longer and to prevent creasing.
E.g. : Too Faced Shadow Insurance, Urban Decay Primer Potion, NARS Eye Primer

Step 2: Apply a gold cream shadow all over your lid, up to your crease, as shown below:
I used Maybeline Colour Tattoo in On and On Bronze

Step 3: Apply a gold shadow over the same area as you just put the cream shadow.
I used an Urban Decay eyeshadow in Half Baked

Step 4: Apply a dark brown in your crease.
I used a mix of MAC's Espresso and Urban Decay's Darkhorse

Step 5: Apply a red lip liner to both shape and fill in your lip, then go over with a true red lipstick.
I used MAC's Cherry lip pencil and Lancome's Rouge in Love lipstick in 170N

All the products used:

Hope you enjoyed! Let me know if you would like me to do more of these "How To" posts, and if there are any posts (tips/recommendations etc) you would like me to do in my "12 Days of Christmas" blogathon then just leave them in the comments section :)

By the way, there has come quite a lot of snow! Perfect timing! Love, love, love it.

Lightning and a Horse

Boy have I missed blogging these past days! I have had so much to do that I feel like  have barely had one moment to just sit and enjoy some quality time with my blog. That doesn't sound strange at all..
Now, I am not back for full just quite yet, because this next week is just as packed as this one has been, but in one week it is December and guess who is doing a "Twelve Days of Christmas" blogathon? (Don't even know if it should be called a blogathon .. Tag is probably better but oh well) Yes, you're right, that is me!

I am not exactly sure what I will write about but every other day in December up until the 24th I will write a post featuring something christmas-y. Whether it may be about fashion/beauty/food/tips it will be relevant for the christmas preparations. So just let me know if there are some specific things you would like me to write about. Maybe tips for Christmas/New Years Eve outfits or makeup/hair styles? Anything you want - let me know and I will keep it in mind! :)

Now today I have been working on a presentation I am having on Monday so I havent left the house except for a quick trip to the grocery store, so my makeup and clothing is fairly casual and comfy, but I will share it anyways.. and yes, I am wearing my horse print top from Urban Outfitters - again. Why? Because I absolutely love it.

I how you are all having a wonderful Saturday! Talk to you all as soon as I can!

- Em

PS: From today of the posts from when I was in Colombia will be deleted simply because I have filled up the space I am given to use for free by blogger and I don't feel like it is necessary to have them anymore :) Just thought I would let you know.

O.P.I The World Is Not Enough

A sudden gap in posts there, sorry about that, but it has been a busy week filled with school, interviews,  ballet's, and some exciting opportunities. Anyway, I will come back to that another time, right now - lets talk nails!

My parents went away last  weekend  and my mom brought a mini set of the O.P.I Skyfall collection. I have seen a few bloggers mention them but I didn't really plan on getting them for myself, but here I am - completely in love with all four of them! The past few days I have opted for the gorgeous, glittery, iridescent silver called "The World Is Not Enough". It is pretty sheer but 3 quick coats and you should be ready to go with a opaque layer of gorgeousness on the tip of your fingers. As for the lasting power - I find it to stay put and not chip, I have been wearing this one for 3 days now and it is only a little faded on the tips but nothing too bad.

I would definitely recommend you to go check this collection out, and if you don't want to go for the full sizes then try the mini's - that way you get to try 4!

How Much Is Your Face Worth?...um what?

First of all, the name of this tag can very easily be misunderstood, but believe me - it is simply just a tag where you list the makeup products you wear on an everyday basis, and sum up the price to see how much all the products are worth all together. So in other words you see how much your face is worth.

I have seen this tag float around the beauty blogger/vlogger community for quite some time, but as I haven't really seen myself as the tag kind-of-girl I haven't gotten around to doing it until now... But here it is:

The How Much Is Your Face Worth Tag
I will just start listing the products that find their way to my face on a regular basis...

(Some of the products were bought on sale an others I have simply
converted from other currencies to pounds and rounded the decimals up to make it
"cleaner" -it didn't really make much of a difference..)

Clarins Instant Smooth Self Tanner - £ 25
Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Mousturizer - £ 33
Sleek Makeup Face Contour Kit - £ 6
Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer - £ 4
Maybeline Dream Lumitouch Concealer - £ 9
Benefit BrowZings - £ 20
Revlon Brow Styling Gel - £ 6
Rimmel Stay Matte Powder - £ 4
TopShop Highlighter - £ 10

Rimmel Exaggerate Eyeliner - £ 4
Maybeline One by One Waterproof Mascara - £ 7
MAC Lipstick - £ 14

Total sum: £ 142

Now that is quite a price tag... but honestly I was prepared for a higher number so I am ok with this. Now I don't always wear all of these products, and not always these exact ones, but I chose the core products that I use the most. I hope this was a little interesting - I was pretty curious to find out myself! I tag any of you who come across this to do the same thing; gather your everyday makeup, and sum it all up in a post on your blog (if you have one), or leave it as a comment here on this post!

Winter Time

As winter is approaching quickly and Christmas with it, I want of share some of my favourite things about this season. Autumn and winter is a very "love it or hate it" season, I for one, don't particularly love the cold and rainy (or god forbid slouchy and snowy)  weather because it means I end up being cold and wet whenever I decide to step outside my house. I do however like the fact that this is the time of year when you can justify drinking one too many cups of tea, and snuggle up in blankets with candles burning everywhere. There is something relaxing, safe and comforting about winter. When the temperature drops to below zero and the walls of your house are creaking, you can bury yourself deep down among pillows and blankets with a good book. Maybe you've heard about these things before, but really, they are pretty darn great.

The reason to why I am writing a post about blankets, candles, books and winter is because well, today is cold and rainy and ..pretty "winter-y", and if it's like that where you are too, then maybe you should try this out, because it helps :)

I feel like Im back on the blogger roll now with frequent posting and a variety in my posts, but if you feel like there's something you would like to see that you feel is missing, then please let me know in the comments :)

Do you have things you like to do on cold and grey winter days?

My Style: Animal Printed Top

Here is a little post on yesterday's outfit - thought I should share it since it features two of my current favourite clothing items. The jeans are the Leigh Skinny Jeans from TopShop and the top is from Urban Outfitters.

I love that these jeans are super skinny but not tight if that makes sense, they are simply amazing! I will definitely get my hands on a few more of these the next time I'm in a TopShop, and I highly reccomend you to try a pair too if you ever get the chance. As for the top - I love the print! And I have to say, Urban Outfitters has become my favourite store...it's like number 1, right on the top of the list. It is like shopping in a heaven. C'est incroyable!

Ok, now I will leave before I try writing any other languages...

What is your favourite place to shop?

Bandana Love

Ok, so I'll admit it; I've become addicted to bandanas and headbands... I don't own many, but I sure do love the ones I have! Ususally I'm not much of a "hair down" girl, simply because I don't like having hair flying everywhere, but with bandanas, I get the hair out of my face which is all I am asking for :)

In the pictures above I am wearing a leopard print headband from NewLook that I bought about a year ago. What I love about this one is that it has a metal string inside it which is what shapes to your head and ties/twists together at the top - as tight or loose as you would like. The colour is not bad either as it blends in nicely with my strawberry blonde hair.

My other ones are the regular bandanas which are more or less like handkerchiefs tied around your hed - oh what a lovely description.. I love how they work with almost anything clothing wise and you can wear them with your hair up, down, or however you like :) I definitely got bitten by this trend a little late, as it has subsided a bit now that autumn is here and winter approaches, but oh well - We can still rock it right?

Do you like bandanas & headbands? What is your favourite way of wearing them?

I am sorry for the huge gap in posts this week, I just needed a little break, but I anm back now :)

Have a nice day wherever you may be in the world!

Musical Sunday

In lack of time and creativity for a better post I am just going to share my spotify playlist with you. This playlist has all my favourite songs, hence the name "favourites", and putting these songs on shuffle is a foolproof way for brightening my mood. I listen to music all day, everyday - without it I would probably be unbearable to be around...yup that is how important music is for me. So here it is, my baby which I am now sharing with whomever it is who might want to have a peek at what I listen too.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Autumn Favourite: Dark lips

I wanted to share with you all one of my current beauty favourites, the dark lip. Now I know this has been all over the beauty world for quite some time already. Every autumn it returns even more so that the year before. The dark red/plum/berry lip is an autumn staple for us beauty girls, and well I think I have found my favourite among the many options out there. MAC lipstick in Rebel. It is a deep purple berry colour, one I would not have guessed to suit me, but to my pleasant surprise it worked well with my pale, freckled skin and strawberry blonde hair.

Here it is, the little beauty MAC Rebel

Even though this is my current favourite lip product, it does not have the pride of being with me on-the-go. In my little makeup bag that I carry everywhere I have the Revlon Kissable Balm Stain in  Crushed.  It looks like this on the lips:

As you can see it is not too different from the MAC Rebel in colour, just a tad bit more sheer and it had teeny tiny sparkles (they don't appear in the pictures but they are there). The balm stain is also more of a balm - go figure when it is a balmstain, anyway that is why I love it for on-the-go as I usually just want to slap on something simple, and not worry too much about it being drying.
Another difference is the price, where the MAC lipstick is up at £14 and the Revlon Balm Stain is at £7.99.

They are both grat products and very "in" for autumn, although I love this deep berry colour all year around :) For the record, the pictures show the colour slightly more red than it is in real life, where it is more on the berry/purple side -just so you know :)

Do you like the berry/purple coloured lip products?
Do you have any you think I should check out?
