oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree

(Before you say I've failed at posting 12 posts - I haven't, I just decided to put up the last post tomorrow showing you some of tonight's celebration, and considering tomorrow is the actual christmas day I consider it ok :))

Our Christmas tree is all decorated an pretty looking now, so I though that although it is not beauty as in makeup/hair it is still beauty as in decorating so that is why I'm showing you our tree :)

There is not really too much more to say when it comes to talking about christmas decorations therefore I will just leave you with some pictures, but before I leave the internet for the day and celebrate this day with my family, I want to wish you a very merry Christmas and I hope you have a peaceful, happy and loving day together with all those you love.

Christmas party dresses you say?

After spending what feels like hours on looking at dresses online, I realized there was no point in dedicating a post to them when I didn't come across any that I really liked. Therefore this will be a post on something else. Duh.

I searched my brain for something to blog about and I thought - what better than to recommend a nice skincare product that can give your skin some thorough cleansing around these holiday times? So today I'm giving you the REN ClearCalm Clarity Restoring Mask! It is a thick mask with a consistency that is mud-like and very smooth to apply. The scent is unexplainable, because at the same time as it is fresh and clean it has an underlying smell that I'm not sure if I am particularly fond of... Scent aside - the results it gives are miraculous! If your skin is looking dull and is red in patches and maybe holds a few spots, then this will give some life back into those cheeks, even out the skin tone (bye-bye redness) and diminish the spots. A wonderworker ? Yes, indeed! And not to mention it is free of all sorts of nasty ingredients - so no parabens, petrochemicals etc... (look at the picture above for more of that) and that is very good indeed.

I highly recommend this to anyone who struggles with red patches on their skin, or has skin that is prone to breakouts. At a price of £30 you can get it with free shipping from lookfantastic.com, from the REN web store (also for £30) or at most drugstores/pharmacies!

This is my favourite face-mask at the moment, it really is one of those feel-good products, and I recommend it to anyone who loves to splurge on a nice feeling skincare product.

25'000

Wow I have reached over 25 000 page-views on this blog! I know for some that may be little, but for me, that is pretty cool! I have now blogged on this "platform" for 1 year and a few months and I am really enjoying it. Not very long ago I was asked to start collaborating with some fashion and beauty brands and although it is still only in the initial stages of the process I am so excited to get an opportunity like this. I started blogging simply because I wanted to keep family and friends updated on my life in Colombia, then I "expanded" into a fashion and beauty blog too and now that I am back in Norway, fashion and beauty is what "someoneinthecorner" is all about!

I truly enjoy blogging and lately there has been a lot more response to my posts which I find very exciting too! I can tell that I will keep this blog up and running for quite some time and I can't wait to see what it may bring. I hope you are all going to join me on this journey and hopefully the blogging community will give me the opportunity to create some nice friendships!

Thank you for staying with me so far, 25 000 is more than I expected to reach so now I am curious of how far this blog may take me and I hope you will keep reading and being incredible :)

Twelve Days of Christmas post coming up later, all about what to wear for the many holiday parties!

xx

Love Actually

So I have to admit that I am not very surprised that we are all still very much alive and that the earth seems to be doing very well even though the Mayas predicted differently.. Well mayas, there you have it - you were wrong I'm afraid, the world did not end.

I know this is unacceptably late for a post to be up, but to be honest I had no blimey clue of what to write. I guess it's called writer's block, but I'm not really a writer so I'm not sure it technically counts for me. Now, enough of the nonsense! I wanted to share my top 5 Christmas movies! As the holidays are here and most of us are out of school/work etc. it is always nice to cuddle up inside with a nice hot drink and a movie, not to mention watching movies is a huge part of the Christmas holiday for many of us :) I myself have a few "faves", and here are 5:

1) Home Alone 1 and 2 - I'll count these as one, although really they're two, but who's counting right?

They are basically the funniest, most festive, most entertaining Christmas movies there is!

2) How the Grinch stole Christmas - I mean who doesn't love this movie? Cute people with crazy hair and a creepy, hairy, green man who is looking for a friend..It always gets me in a good mood :)

3) Love Actually - Cheesy? Yes. Christmassy? Yes. Cute? Yes. Romantic? Yes. Do I need to say anymore?

4) The Polar Express - All about believing in Santa - I love that.

5) The Santa Clause 2 - Although it is childish I very much enjoy it. It gives me a festive feeling!

I also love the programs and movies the show on TV but they are mainly short films/cartoons + my number one favourite: "Tre nøtter til Askepott" which only fellow Norwegians will know. Oh and I do like The Holiday and Christmas in Wonderland, but I was supposed to only write five so those above will do.

I should probably mention that I haven't watched too many christmas movies, so if you have a favourite that I didn't mention then let me know!

Where to go and where not to go in Paris

What comes to your mind when i say shopping in Paris? I'm going to take a wild guess and bet that it is Vintage, Luxurious (Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Armani...oh the list is long) and oh, Champs-Élysées. Did I get it right? I know those were the first things I thought of before I actually went to Paris. I can't at all call me an expert when it comes to the best places to shop in Paris, but I do know how I felt about the places we went to and therefore I thought I would share where I think you should make the time to go and where you should not.

Firstly, unless you love tons of people pushing and rushing, noisy traffic and five of each different store up the same street then I don't see a reason to go to Champs-Élysées unless you actually want to be able to say that you've at least been there. If you fancy stores such as Tommy Hilfiger and Louis Vuitton then go for it - Champs-Élysées is probably just your thing, but personally I found it to make me exhausted from the moment I set my feet on that street's sidewalk.

Agood alternative though, actually a better alternative I would say, is Rue De Rivoli. It has tons of stores, everything from H&M and Zara to Sephora and Yves Rocher to a few of those exclusive and extremely overprized French brands. Not to mention that there are a few vintage shops and that Louvre is basically placed right on this street. Notre Dame is just across the bridge and the amazing shopping center La Fayette is only 5-10 minutes away. Oh and a street called Av. de l'Opéra that is leading down to Rue de Rivoli (intersecting right by Louvre) is also a nice street with more unique shops and boutiques!

Other than that I simply suggest to take the metro to any stop, and start exploring the hidden treasures in the narrow streets. Hope this helped if you are going to visit this gorgeous city in the near (or far) future! If you have any suggestions for my readers or for me on shopping in Paris, then let us know in the comments!

Paris: Outfit

7 down and 5 to go of the 12 days of Christmas posts, which means that there will be one new post every day up until Monday, 24th of December!
I had an amazing time in Paris over the weekend, and I am working on making a little video of the things we did. As soon as that's done I will post it here, and hopefully that will be before 12 days of Christmas is over :) Anyway, while in Paris I finally found the winter coat I have been looking everywhere for, and what better way to show it to you than in some "taken in the hotel bathroom just before leaving" pictures? Oh well, I realize I should have made the effort to take some more decent pictures but these will do for now. You will no doubt see this coat again, very shortly, and in way better quality. That's a promise.

Apparently this is Dead Serious Stuff...

Coat // Zara
Top // Urban Outfitters
Skirt // H&M
Thights // H&M
Bag // BikBik

On My Lips: is MAC Cherry Lip pencil and Revlon LipButter in Apple Candy

Like it?

Add some glitter this Christmas!

Christmas is sneaking up faster than I want to realize - Have you thought about the fact that in just a little over two weeks 2012 is over? I certainly feel like this year has literally flown by

Before I start on sharing what I have on my nails, I thought I would share a little fun fact! In my sweet, sweet town/city, that never gets a lot of snow before Christmas (only after...and with that I mean in february - ugh), it has been snowing like CRAZY the past 24 hours! It snowed constantly all day yesterday and the result? About 70-80 cm of beautiful, white snow. Ahh, I couldn't have asked for a better December.

Now over to nails! Currently I have on a lovely little combo of some taupe and gold. I recently picked up Essie's Don't Sweater It, after I heard Anna rave about it. It is such a lovely neutral taupe/brown colour that works so very well at giving your nails a clean, but sophisticated look. The formula, as always with Essie polishes, is creamy and smooth and the colour is so opaque that one coat will work well if you don't have time for a second one. With the wide brush that the new Essie polishes have you avoid the fuss with streaking - it is simply just a dream to apply.

The super glittery gold is from the O.P.I Skyfall collection, and carries the name Golden Eye just like the old Bond classic. I briefly mentioned this in another post where I reviewed a different polish from the collection which you can read about here. This little mini is no different to the other ones in the set - just as opaque (well as opaque as a glitter polish can get - but two coats and you have a solid gold nail) and long-lasting. As it is a mini the brush is a little bit small, but it is definitely workable. I am wearing two thin coats of this over the Essie colour, but only on my ring fingers. I love having one nail in a different more "poppy" polish, especially when the other nails are in such a neutral shade.

I am not sure if I have mentioned this already, but tomorrow night I am going to Paris with my best friend (the same best friend I went to London with), and although I am staying there until Monday night, I will try to avoid it getting in the way of my Twelve Days of Christmas . I cannot promise anything though as I don't know what our program looks like, but if there are no new posts up this weekend I will make it up to you with extra posts next week, sounds good?

Would you like me to make a vlog from Paris where i take you with me on what we get up to?
If you think that could be fun, then leave me a comment and I will definitely make sure to bring out my camera whilst walking around the streets of Paris, even though I will look like an idiot talking to a camera :)

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas

Due to the extreme amounts of school work I have going on, I am just going to make this a "picture post" featuring some shots I have taken over the past days. Hopefully they will spread some Christmas feeling to those of you who are still lacking the festive feel:) Enjoy...

Snow,snow, snow and more snow...

Mickey inside Mickey?.. umm, what?

I wish you all a nice night, or day, or whatever time it is when you may read this. I will give you a better post on thursday, I promise!
Enjoy December, and please try to relax  a little in between all the Christmas preparations!

Bring out the Christmas Clothes

Although it has been cold here in Norway for quite a while now, I know that there are some countries who are experiencing the change in temperatures around this time, and well - different temperatures means different clothes. Whenever winter comes I love to cuddle up in big, thick, warm, knitted jumpers but at the same time not look like I'm drowning in last year's santa costume, so therefore I thought I would share an outfit i put together about a week ago (when the snow had just arrived) when I did in fact wear a Red Knitted Sweater.

sorry about the quality not being too amazing

Red Knit // Forever21
High-waisted Jeans // BikBok
Black, Studded Leather Jacket // ZARA
Headband // NewLook
Necklace // H&M
Rings // Market in Colombia
Boots // Tennis

Lipstick // Revlon Lipbutter in Candy Apple

I love how bright the colour of this sweater it, because it really contrasts with the white snow and the brown, dull coloured branches on the trees. With a scarf wrapped around my neck, I would be all set to go outside - without being cold :)

This wasn't really too much of a "Christmas-y" post but at least it was "winter-y". I hope you liked it, and as always, leave me a comment if you have anything you would like to see during Twelve Days Of Christmas! :)

Christmas Gift Guide for a Beauty Girl!

As a little beauty freak I know how much I appreciate some new bits and pieces in my collection of  gorgeousness, and it is even more enjoyable when they come wrapped in pretty paper, accompanied by a lovely card. So to help those of you who are trying to decide what to get that beauty obsessed girl; here are a few of my tips!

Number 1: Luxurious lipsticks
I would say that it is a safe pick to go with a lipstick or lipgloss from a brand that she may not have the budget to splurge on ever so often. CHANEL, Yves Saint Laurent, Lancôme and MAC to mention some, are great brands to look into for a special, luxury treat to someone. (Any product from a luxury, high-end brand such as these will most likely be a success. It doesn't have to be a lip product )

source: www.weheartit.com

Number 2: Mini - Makeup Goodie Bag
Not only lipsticks, but mascaras, foundations, blushes and eyeshadows are all worth considering for your beauty junkie. If you don't want to spend too much and would rather go for something less extravagant than the brands mentioned above, then take a whirl around your local drugstore/pharmacy (or anywhere where they stock brands such as Maybeline, L'oréal, MaxFactor, Sleek, Rimmel, Revlon) and pick up a few pieces that can come together as a nice gift.

My tip would be to go for something that suits the holiday, so maybe a red or berry/plum coloured lipstick/gloss, an eyeshadow quad with some sparkling golds and browns  and maybe an eyeliner or a warm blush. It doesn't have to come together as too much as long as you take advantage of affordable brands, and all the offers they have around this time of year. If you feel like going all out, they maybe buy a little makeup bag to store it all in?

Number 3: Nail Polishes
Around this time of the year all beauty companies come out with their holiday collections and well, they all include a lovely nail polish or two. It is the same with actual nail polish brands such as O.P.I and Essie. There are countless colours, sizes, sets and formulas to choose from, but as a christmas gift I think that the mini sets from O.P.I and Essie are absolutely brilliant! O.P.I released a mini set of their James Bond Skyfall collection which I think had some pretty gorgeous colours in it.  See a post featuring one of the colours here. And Essie's christmas collection is also pretty stunning, especially their glittery berry colour!

When it comes to nail polish it really is an almost fool-proof gift, just make sure you go for a brand with good reputation and that you choose colours that the girl you're buying for will like!

Essie's Christmas Collection (The glittery berry colour is all the way to the back)

Number 4: Bath, Body and Hair Products
Whether it may be oils to put in the bath or oils to put on your body or soaps/shampoos/conditioners , nice looking and nice smelling body and hair products are always great gifts! I don't have a bathtub myself but if I did I know I would have loved to have some Aromatherapy Oils to soak in. Around Christmas there are also tons of offers on sets made up of a fragrances, bath/body products and nice treats that are perfect for pampering! www.feelunique.com has a brilliant selection, so you can have a look there :)

source: www.weheartit.com

Number 5: Fragrances / Perfumes
What girl doesn't love a nice perfume? What's so great about perfumes/fragrances is that you can get one from a very luxurious brand without robbing yourself completely. A CHANEL perfume for example is something that will still give that feeling of exclusivity and luxury but cost you way less than a CHANEL bag. And you can get perfumes/fragrances  from all sorts of brands in all sorts of sizes and scents and you don't have to ruin your budget for it :)

source: www.weheartit.com

Number 6: Beauty treatments

Now this is a gift that can be very cheap or very expensive, but it can also be very personal and something most girls (not only us beauty freaks) will love. I'm thinking about a beauty treatment of any sort; a massage, a facial, a manicure/pedicure, a day at a spa and so on...

I said it could be very affordable/very expensive because it all depends on how much money you have and how much you are willing to spend. You can easily make it incredibly personal and thoughtful by offering to give her a massage using a massage/body oil . A suggestion of how to present this is to make a nice card, where you write what you are willing to give (massage/manicure/anything you can come up with) and make maybe five small boxes that she has to cross out for every time she receives this treat (almost like a punch card). Put this card into a nice paper bag together with a nice massage oil/nail polish/some chocolate hearts (if you want to make it more romantic), or whatever suits the gift you're giving.

If you want to spend more money you can always book a day at a nice spa and give that in the same "presentation" as above, but personally I think the more affordable version is definitely the most personal and thoughtful gift.

Wow. If you have read this whole post then - Congratulations! And Thank You! I didn't intend for it to get so long, but when I get inspired, there is no way to slow me down or stop me... Anyway, I hope this was helpful to at least some of you who may (or may not) be struggling to find a gift for that one girl who just loves beauty or who simply doesn't know what to wish for.

If there are any other sorts of gift guides you would like me to do, then let me know and I will get on it, Christmas is getting close and finding those last minute gifts can be a nightmare, so if I can help anyone avoid the stress, I will be very glad :)

New post in two days - a fashion post this time!
